Membrane Keyboards are a very cost-effective way of combining the printed circuitry usually required for any electronic instruments with any data entry requirements.

As mentioned on the overlay web page, it is also a very cost effective way of combining multiple functions in one part. Another advantage is the ability to incorporate the wiring through the use of flexible conductors; reducing or eliminating the cabling labor normally required in electronic instrumentation.

Membrane keyboards are appropriate for low to medium data entry duty cycles. They are not appropriate for high volume data entry.
